What is the Moon.com holding fee?

Moon's holding fee is charged every 8 hours a bet stays open. Moon does not publish a fixed rate. It states the rate is dynamic, and moves with market conditions, the volatility of the asset, its liquidity and broader funding costs, shown inside the platform. This differs from the 1% opening fee, charged once when a bet opens, and from the performance fee, charged only on a profit, at a minimum of 10%. The profit or loss Moon shows on an open bet already includes the holding fees accrued so far. Rakeback returns 3.5% of fees, including holding fees, once it is active. The 20% partner discount applies to trading fees, but Moon publishes no base holding rate, so this page cannot state a discounted one either. Every figure on this page comes from Moon's own help centre, checked 10 September 2026.

Charged every 8 hours, at a rate Moon does not fix

A bet that stays open pays a holding fee every 8 hours. Moon states the rate is dynamic. It moves with market conditions, the volatility of the asset, its liquidity and broader funding costs. The rate is displayed inside the platform, on the position itself. Moon publishes no fixed number, so a page that quotes one is guessing.

Two names for the same charge

Moon's fees article calls this the holding fee. Moon's glossary uses an older name for the same charge, the rolling fee. Both describe the cost of keeping a leveraged position open past the moment it opens. Read either page and the charge is the same one.

How it differs from the opening fee and the performance fee

The opening fee is charged once, at 1% of the wager, when a bet opens. The holding fee is charged repeatedly, every 8 hours the bet stays open. The performance fee is charged once, only when a bet closes at a profit, at a minimum of 10% of that profit. A flip closes a bet and opens a new one in the opposite direction, and the 1% opening fee applies again. A position flipped several times can pay the opening fee several times, on top of any holding fees each leg accrues. The full breakdown of all three fees is on the fees page.

How the holding fee appears in your profit figure

Moon states that the profit or loss shown on an open bet already includes the accrued holding fees, along with the estimated closing price and the performance fee that would apply. The figure on screen is meant to match what you would receive if you closed the bet at that moment. A position open for days shows the holding fee's effect building in that number, even before you close it.

Rakeback returns part of it, and the code does not touch the rate

Rakeback returns 3.5% of the fees you pay, once it is active on the account. Moon's help centre states rakeback applies to the fee from opening a wager, from holding one past 8 hours, and from closing at a profit. Part of a holding fee comes back through rakeback, not all of it. Read how activation works on the rakeback page. The referral code ACES carries a 20% discount on trading fees. Moon publishes no base holding rate on its public pages, so this page cannot state the rate with the code or without it.

How to limit the holding fee

Three habits keep the charge small.

  1. Close the bet before 8 hours pass, so no holding fee accrues.
  2. Read the rate shown on the position before you open the bet.
  3. Use the auto profit close and auto loss close settings, so Moon closes the bet for you at a chosen level.

This is leveraged betting. You can lose your whole wager, and higher leverage loses it on a smaller move in price. Moon is 18 and over only, and available in supported countries. How leverage sets your position size is on the leverage page.
